Former Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), six-time Member of JS, Colonel (Retd.) Shawkat Ali has passed away (Inna Lillah wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).
He breathed his last at 9.30 am on Monday (November 16) while on life support at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
His namaz –e- Janaza will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Maghrib prayers. Earlier, the body will be kept at the National Shaheed Minar at 4.30 pm. Later on Tuesday (November 17), his body will be taken to Naria in Shariatpur district at 10 am in an Armed Forces helicopter. Then people of all walks of life will pay their last respect at the Naria Shaheed Minar. After Janaza at Naria BL High School after Johar, the valiant freedom fighter will be laid to rest at his home at Swadhinata Bhaban in Naria, Shariatpur.
Colonel(Retd.) Shawkat Ali was one of the accused in the historic Agartala Conspiracy case along with the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also served as the founding chairman of the Muktijoddha Samhati Parishad and the chief adviser of the 71 Foundation.
