UN was not involved in the Rohingya relocation for its ‘negativity’

Due to the continuous negative propaganda, unrealistic conditions, unwavering position and non-cooperation of the UN agencies, it has not been possible to involve the UN in the process of relocating the Rohingyas to Bhasan Char.

The information came from a working paper of a meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs held at the Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday (December 8).

The meeting discussed the latest situation of repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar and their relocation to Bhasanchar and expressed satisfaction on behalf of the committee in the action plan presented by the newly appointed Ambassador to the United States. The committee recommended to the ministry to intensify diplomatic efforts for the return of Rohingya to Myanmar.

According to the working paper of the meeting, due to the continuous negative propaganda of the UN agencies, unrealistic conditions, unwavering position and non-cooperation, it has not been possible to involve the UN in the process of relocating the Rohingyas to Bhasan Char. However, efforts continue to involve UN agencies and other donor countries and organizations providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced Rohingyas.

According to the information in the working paper, in the light of the decision of the ‘high level’ of the government, the transfer of 1642 Rohingyas was completed on December 4 on the basis of full voluntary consent.

The meeting was chaired by Muhammad Farooq Khan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen, State minister Shahriar Alam, Md. Abdul Majid Khan, Nahim Razzak and Kazi Nabil Ahmed participated.

The meeting was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concerned senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat.
