Four people killed in an electricity originated fire in Naryanganj

Four members of the same family have been killed in a fire originating from a snapped electricity wire at Rupganj in Narayanganj.

The incident took place in the Kumartek area of Sadar union of the upazilla around 9pm on Friday (January 22). Among the dead in the fire were two physically challenged children and teenagers.

The dead are- Md. Masum (40)of Kumartek, his wife Seema Akhter (33), son Russel Mia (17) and Rahmat Ullah (10).

Uddipan Bhakta, station officer of Purbachal Upasahar Multipurpose Fire Service, said two power lines had gone over the house of Masum, who was killed in the blaze. At around 9 pm on Friday, one line snapped and fell on the other and caught fire. The fire broke out in Masum's tin shed room. The four in the house were burnt. Upon receiving the news, the fire service personnel recovered the burnt bodies of Masum, Russel and Rahmatullah. Seema was also rescued in a burnt condition and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. There she died.

Rupganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohsinul Qadir said a case of unnatural death was being prepared.
