Mentioning the need for a strong opposition party for democracy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the opposition parties have failed to win the confidence of the people due to lack of efficient leadership.
The Prime Minister said, "Opposition parties now say that they have not been able to gain the trust and confidence of the people as their leadership is not like that." But democracy must have a strong opposition. There is no doubt about it.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while inaugurating a website named after Bangabandhu and launching a digital anthology of Father of the Nation speeches.
On Sunday (January 31) at 11:30 am, the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat arranged the inaugural of the 'Mujib Barsha's Activities' Mujib Barsha website 2020-21 and the digital compilation of audio speeches of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Prime Minister said Parliament has a role to play in maintaining the democratic trend in our country. Because, Parliament is a place where people's representatives come and get a chance to speak to the people.
Referring to her party and her own experience of what kind of problems they had to deal with while they were in the Opposition in Parliament, the Prime Minister said, "That's why we don't create such problems anymore."
Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury and Nabil Ahmed MP also addressed the function. Chief Whip Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton was present on the dias at the time.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh Awami League was built up by the Father of the Nation and when he was elected the general secretary of the party he left the ministry to make the party better.
The Prime Minister said the father of the nation had a long cherished dream, one day to give these Bengalis’ independence as a nation and make it an independent state. He did it. But the misfortune of the nation was that he was killed along with his family.
She said her government and party were working with the aim of making the Bengalis smile by completing the unfinished work of the Father of the Nation.
The Prime Minister said all the programs we have taken on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation 2020 are important for the nation. On this occasion, tree planting and a special session of Parliament were organized.
She said the website was launched today in the Mujib Borsho. Moreover, stamps have been released. Besides, a compilation of Bangabandhu's speeches has been published here.
Sheikh Hasina said her government has taken some more programs on the golden jubilee of independence. If the corona situation improves, it will be possible to do those programs in detail. And so her government has decided to continue the program of Mujib Barsha till 16th December, 2021, our Victory Day.
The Prime Minister thanked the Speaker for conducting the Parliament smoothly.
"You are managing this parliament very efficiently and impartially," she said. That is why the image of our Parliament has grown internationally today.
Expressing gratitude to the people for repeatedly electing him, she said, "We want the traditional trend to continue in the country and we have the opportunity to work for the nation."
