Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six people in a raid from a clandestine factory manufacturing spurious liquor in Bhatara area of the capital. The arrested were making spurious liquor by mixing spirits, sugar, dyes and water.
On Monday (February 1), DMP's Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner KM Hafeez Akter led carried a raid at around 10pm and arrested them.
He said that in the last few days, several foreigners died in Dhaka after drinking alcohol. But this should not happen if you drink foreign liquor. That's when we think that such incidents are happening as a result of drinking spurious alcohol. After that we started the investigation.
Hafiz Akhter said the DB Gulshan team and the concerned police raided a fake liquor factory in Bhatara Khilbari's Tech area around 10pm on Monday on the basis of intelligence information. At this time, it is seen that the work of filling the old foreign liquor bottles with adulterated liquor was going on. At that time 6 people were arrested from the spot red handed.
The Additional Commissioner of the DB said that during the interrogation of the detainees, it was learned that they were making spurious liquor in bottles of foreign liquor by mixing spirits, sugar, dyes and water brought from Mirpur. In one week, they have sold 231 bottles of adulterated liquor around Dhaka, including the capital. A notebook was recovered from them. There were many names involved in this work. We will continue our raid to nab them.
