Opposition stages demonstrations ignoring ban of Military government

Opponents of the military government staged the largest protest rally on Tuesday (February 9) despite the presence ruler's ban. More than a decade later, such protests have taken place in the country.

They have announced to continue the non-violent movement ignoring the army ruler's night curfew and road blockade ban. The police used water cannon to stop the protesters can be seen in the capital, Yangon. Reuters reported.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been protesting since the army took power on February 1, capturing top political leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi and seizing power.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Monday (February 8), removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

Buddhist monks also joined the protest.

Protesters are carrying banners and placards with various types of writing. These banners and placards read 'Release our leaders', 'Respect our voters', 'Protect democracy', 'Reject military coups', 'Say no' to dictatorship, etc.

Protesters take pictures of Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi. They are protesting after wearing red clothes. The flag of the Suu Kyi National League for Democracy (NLD) is red.

In a speech to the nation on Monday, Min Aung Hlaing, the country's current ruler and army chief, promised to hold new elections soon and hand over power to the winning party. Min Aung made the announcement at a time when the country's people were moving toward a more violent movement against military rule.
