Visitors on buses, microbuses, private cars and motorbikes from different parts of the country were spotted on the banks of the Kanthalbari river port in Shariatpur district on Wednesday. People of different ages have come from different districts to see this Padma Multipurpose Bridge. This is where cooking is arranged. From here, you can see the bridge over the river by boat, walk around and enjoy.
Many have also traveled with their families on the bridge's connecting road, rail project and the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway. On this day, Md. Bipul Hossain and Akhtar Hossain came to visit Padma Bridge area from Kushtia. They said they came with their families to see the Padma Bridge. After coming here by microbus, they went around the river by boat, went to the bridge and took pictures.
Shariful Islam, who came from Jashore, said that they came here with their friends and walked around the river for two and a half hours. They especially like to go near the Padma Bridge.
Dulali Khatun, a resident of Meherpur, said she is a housewife and saw the entire bridge from the Jajira end of the bridge to the Mawa end. But watching this Padma Bridge on television aroused curiosity. So she brought her family members to see the bridge. Looking at the pillars of the bridge, the span and the deep Padma, she is overwhelmed.
Moyna Khatun, a visitor said her home was in Joybangyala Bazar area of Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur district. However, she lives at his father-in-law's house in Kushtia. This is the first time that the husband has come to see the Padma Bridge with her children and family members after it became fully visible. They saw the work of building the bridge from the speedboat. Once the construction of the bridge is completed, it is possible to reach Dhaka from home in one and a half hours.
Jahangir Hossain, the driver of the trawler carrying the visitors, said he used to work in other people's boats. Since the commencement of work on the Padma Bridge, the number of people in the area has been increasing. He bought the boat of his own a few months ago. Many people come to see the bridge. He also took them from here and showed them around.
He added that the demand for trawlers has also increased as more people come to visit. It takes 2-3 hours to get the visitors around in the trawler once. As a result, it is possible to visit several times throughout the day. The income is quite good.
It may be mentioned that the first span of the bridge was laid on September 30, 2017. After that, overcoming many obstacles and facing various challenges, the work of installing all the spans of the bridge was completed on 10 December, 3 years 2 months and 10 days. A four-lane road is on the upper floor of the dream two-storey Padma Bridge. And the train line will run on the ground floor. The bridge, made of concrete and steel, is being built by China Major Bridge Engineering Construction Company, a Chinese contractor.
