21 eminent persons to get Ekushey Padak today

In recognition of important contributions in various fields, 21 prominent citizens of the country will be awarded the Ekushey Padak of 2021 today.

The medal will be handed over at 11 a.m. on Saturday (February 20) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be virtually attached as the chief guest on the occasion.

Earlier, the names of the Ekushey Padak recipients of were announced last February 4. This year Ekushey Padak is being given to 21 eminent citizens for their contribution in various fields.

According to the Ministry of Culture, this year 3 people will be awarded Ekushey Padak in language movement (posthumously, 3 people in liberation war category, 7 people in art, 3 people in language and literature, 1 person each in journalism, research, education, economy and social service.

Motahar Hossain Talukder (Motahar Master), Shamsul Haque, Advocate Afsar Uddin Ahmed are receiving the posthumous Ekushey Padak in recognition of their contribution in the language movement.

Singer Papia Sarwar, actor Raisul Islam Asad, Salma Begum Sujata (Sujata Azim), Ahmed Iqbal Haider (drama), Syed Salauddin Zaki (film), Dr. Bhaswar Bandopadhyay (recitation), Pavel Rahman (photography).

Golam Hasnain, Fazlur Rahman Khan Farooq and Syeda Isabella (posthumously) are getting awards in the Liberation War category.

Ajay Dasgupta in journalism, Professor Sameer Kumar Saha in research, Begum Mahfuza Khanam in education, Dr. Mirza Abdul Jalil in Economics, Professor Kazi Kamruzzaman in social service, poet Kazi Rozy, Bulbul Chowdhury and Golam Murshid are getting awards for special contribution in language and literature.
