WHO praises Bangladesh for tackling Covid

The head of the World Health Organization(WHO) Tedros Adhanam Gabriasus praised the government of Bangladesh for successfully tackling the Covid pandemic. He described Bangladesh's success in controlling Covid as a unique example to the world.

He told this on Tuesday (February 23) while in a courtesy call on Mostafizur Rahman with the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in Geneva.

Ambassador Rahman apprised the Director General of the steps taken by Bangladesh to address the Covid. In particular, the ‘Whole-of-the-Government’ approach led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina elaborated on the integrated steps. He also reiterated the other achievements in the health sector and the government's commitment to universal health care. In particular, he informed the WHO chief about the delivery of health services to the doorsteps of the people through community clinics. Ambassador Rahman also mentioned the need to integrate mental health, autism, intelligence and neurological disabilities into the mainstream of healthcare.

Ambassador Rahman thanked the WHO Chief for the effective role of the World Health Organization in combating the ongoing Covid-19, and for the various steps it has taken to prevent Covid, especially in developing countries.

He also requested to play a visible and strong role in the rapid delivery of coronavirus vaccine to the member states under the COVAX facility.

Dr. Tedros expressed satisfaction over the expansion of health infrastructure and development of healthcare in Bangladesh. He assured the Ambassador that the support and cooperation of the World Health Organization will continue in this regard.
