Biman acquires new aircraft ‘Shwetbalaka’

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is going to add another new Dash 8-400 aircraft 'Shwetbalaka' to its fleet. The Dash-8 model, manufactured by Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland, will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday afternoon, March 5. After landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the aircraft will be greeted with a water cannon salute as part of the Aviation Fanfair.

Earlier, the aircraft departed for Bangladesh from De Havilland Bombardier Aerospace, a renowned Canadian aircraft manufacturer.

The first of the three Dash-8 planes purchased on a GTG basis between the governments of Bangladesh and Canada was added to the fleet on 27 December 2020 and the second on 24 February 2021.

It is to be noted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has named this aircraft. The aircraft has 74 seats with all the modern facilities. The addition of the aircraft to the fleet will increase the flight frequency on its domestic and short-haul routes, enabling the aircraft to provide better services to its passengers on these routes.

At present, the total number of aircraft in the fleet is 20. Of these, four are Boeing 777-300 ER, four are Boeing 787-8, two are Boeing 787-9, six are Boeing 737s and four are Dash 8-400 aircraft. With the addition of the third Dash-8 aircraft to the fleet, the number of aircraft will be 21.
