No decision has been taken to cancel the gallantry award of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said that the decision has been taken to cancel the titles of those who have confessed or convicted for killing of Bangabandhu.
He made the remarks at a discussion at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Saturday (March 6).
He said if Ziaur Rahman's involvement in the assassination of Bangabandhu was found, then action would be taken subject to investigation. The committee is investigating the matter. After the investigation, the data will be presented to the nation.
Mozammel Haque said there is a misunderstanding about this. On the day we had a meeting, it has been recommended to cancel the titles of some people - they are self-confessed murderers. They have been convicted by the court. It was discussed that Ziaur Rahman was involved with Bangabandhu's killer. Many had given confessional statements about the truth of the fact. Many people had given a lot of information to prove that he(Zia)was a murderer.
"At this stage, we decided to form a committee," he said. Within 2 months, they have to submit the documentary evidence, when and on what date and what they did. After receiving the report, the committee will discuss. The newspaper wrote that it had been recommended for cancellation, with some saying the committee had been.
"But I have tried to make it clear to the media. We did not cancel the title, it was decided that we would make a decision after analyzing the report received by the inquiry committee. It has been decided to find out when and where he was involved in the murder. Once it is out, we will present it to the nation. '
Earlier, the Jatiyo Muktojodhya Council(Jamuka) decided to cancel the 'Bir Uttam' award of former president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's contribution to the liberation war, citing his support for Bangabandhu's assassination. If Ziaur Rahman's title is canceled after almost 50 years of independence, all their state facilities will also be canceled. The decision was taken at the 72nd meeting of Jamuka at Scout Bhaban in the capital on February 9.
