Some opportunistic people have made politics a profession, said President Abdul Hamid.

"Today is the 50th anniversary of our independence," he said. There have been many ups and downs in politics at this time. So the time has come to think about how much qualitative change has taken place in politics. The party is bigger than the individual, the country is bigger than the party - this is the main ideology of politics. But nowadays politics seems to be moving in the opposite direction. Some opportunists have made politics their profession.

The President was speaking as the chief guest on the first day of the 10-day program 'Bhengecho Duar, Esecho Jotirmoy' on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence on Wednesday (March 17).

The 10-day event began at 4:30 pm at the National Parade Ground with the performance of the national anthem by the children. Also present were Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The President said that politics and profession is not one thing. Through occupation, a person makes a living for himself and his family. And politics is a great field to work for the welfare of the country and the people.

Abdul Hamid said that nothing could distract him from his goal of personal and family happiness or pleasure. If Bangabandhu wanted, he could have immersed himself in wealth. But he reluctantly rejected all these and took the interests of the country and the people i.e. Bengalis and Bangladesh as his vow of life. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not find a place in history with any metal mantra. He has taken place with his actions and life.

The President said that the sun rises every day to illuminate the earth. A sun rose at Tungipara in Gopalganj on 17th March to enlighten the Bengalis. In the light of which we have received a flag and the national anthem. He gave me the opportunity to stand with my head held high. Brought self-identity; Bangladesh. Bangabandhu is the great hero of history.

He is the architect of our freedom. In order to reach the golden peak of history, Bangabandhu had to suffer many sacrifices, tortures and imprisonment. He did not find a place in history with any magic. Since his school days, he had worked for the welfare of the people, started by distributing his books, clothes, umbrellas and ended it with his own life.
