Another 53,500 homeless and landless families will get pucca houses with land next June as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Mujib Year. Therefore, the Prime Minister's Office has instructed the field level officials to complete the work of Asrayan Project-2 expeditiously. However, the concerned authorities have been directed to increase the monitoring to ensure the quality of work and to ensure that the right people get the shelter project house.

The information was given at a meeting to review the progress of ongoing housing construction under the Asrayan project at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday (May 3) afternoon.

The meeting chaired by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus, issued a stern warning against any irregularities in the work of the project.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Asrayan Project-2 on January 23 by providing 70,000 houses to the landless and homeless. The Prime Minister inaugurated the project as part of her pledge to provide houses to every landless and homeless person in the country on the occasion of Mujib year and the golden jubilee of independence.

Mentioning that the Prime Minister is always monitoring the progress of the work of Asrayan Project-2, Kaikaus said that they are hoping that the project will be completed in time.

He instructed the field officials to prove their qualifications by successfully completing the project. "It's a rare opportunity to serve the people," he said.

Referring to the Prime Minister's personal contribution of Tk. 5 crore to the shelter project on behalf of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust, he said the private sector is also showing interest in the government's initiative.

Kaikaus said the Prime Minister has set an example to the world by taking steps to eradicate poverty from Bangladesh and provide dignified seats to the homeless in society.

Referring to some irregularities in the Asrayan  project, the Principal  Secretary said no irregularities would be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against any irregularity. He also said not to take this warning lightly.

Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Tofazzal Hossain Mia directed the field level officials to expedite the work of the project so that the government could provide houses to another 50,000 landless and homeless people by June 7.
