Sheikh Hasina returned to country to restore democracy: Quader

Awami League general secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina came back to the country to restore democracy after treatment in the United States during the state of emergency declared by the caretaker government.

He made the remarks at a regular briefing at his official residence on Friday (May 7) afternoon.

Obaidul Quader said, May 7 is a memorable day for the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh. Mentioning that Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina did no wrong on that day, Obaidul Quader said that the soil and people of this country are the main force of Sheikh Hasina's politics. That is why no conspiracy could stop Deshratna Sheikh Hasina on that day.

The general secretary of Awami League said that Sheikh Hasina was born in a political family and witnessed many twists and turns in history. He said that her father Mujib was the guru of Sheikh Hasina's politics. She loves the people of the country like her father.

He said that is why the caretaker government was forced to withdraw from the elections due to the pressure of the people as Bangabandhu's daughter who came to the country after overcoming hundreds of obstacles to free democracy from the shackles.

Mentioning that the Awami League-led grand alliance formed the government with an absolute majority in the 9th parliamentary elections on December 29, 2008, Obaidul Quader said that Sheikh Hasina took over the responsibility of running the state after being elected Prime Minister for the second time.

He said that after taking charge, Deshratna Sheikh Hasina started the struggle to build a happy, prosperous and developed state by recovering the country from the state of crisis.

Referring to the verdict in the Bangabandhu assassination and the war criminals, the Road Transport Minister said the victory of the sea came from the hands of Sheikh Hasina and the solution of the long-standing border issue was indicative of her outstanding diplomatic skills.

Obaidul Quader said under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is moving forward at an indomitable pace on the highway of development.

He said Sheikh Hasina has reached the limits of her dream by sending the Bangabandhu satellite into space. Our own ability to finance and work on the Padma Bridge, a symbol of pride, is nearing completion, with the Karnafuli Tunnel of dreams and the Metrorail of dreams of the younger generation moving forward at breakneck speed.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader further said that Sheikh Hasina's courageous and prudent leadership has been praised at home and abroad for facing the first wave of corona in Bangladesh.

In many developed countries of the world where they are struggling to cope with Corona, under the courageous and wise leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Corona has brought some control under the balance of life and livelihood.

Referring to the return of Sheikh Hasina to her homeland on May 7 as a significant event in the history of Bangladesh's democratic movement, struggle and development and prosperity, Obaidul Quader said, the program has been avoided on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

However, Deshratna, the source of eternal hope and eternal inspiration of Bengalis, wished all the leaders and workers of the party and the people of the country to pray for Sheikh Hasina's good health and longevity at home.

Obaidul Quader also called for observing the day through milad mahfil on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina's historic Homecoming Day on May 17 and requested for special prayers at mosques, temples and pagodas.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said reports in various media outlets that the Padma Bridge had been extended for another two years due to corona were not true.

The Minister expressed hope that the work on the Padma Bridge would be completed by June next year and opened to traffic.
