Bangladeshis banned from entering Maldives

The Maldives has imposed a travel ban on Bangladeshi workers and tourists to prevent coronavirus infection.

The country's immigration authorities announced the ban on Saturday (May 8).

The ban says workers and tourists from seven South Asian countries have been banned from traveling to prevent infection.

The countries are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan.

Immigration authorities in the Maldives say a ban on tourists from seven South Asian countries entering and staying in the Maldives will take effect from Sunday. In addition, work permit holders from these countries have been barred from entering the Maldives. This prohibition will remain in effect until further order.

A total of 34,134 people have been infected with the coronavirus in the Maldives so far. 82 people died. 25 thousand 782 people have recovered.
