BNP is looking for a new way after the law ministry had said 'no' to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's prayer for better treatment abroad. The party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this.
The BNP is reviewing the legal impediments and grounds for Khaleda Zia to go abroad for treatment. The party's top leaders are talking to other senior lawyers in addition to the party-backed lawyers. Besides, the team is also looking for such an example of being treated abroad despite being convicted.
In this regard, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday (May 10) that efforts are now being made to ensure maximum treatment in Dhaka. At the same time, the party's policy-making forum will decide whether there is a legal or any other way to take her abroad.
The BNP secretary general said, "We cannot take Begum Zia abroad by force." The government has not done that at all. So we will try, here (in the country) to give her the most advanced treatment. At the same time, we will see if there are any other options or legal or any other way.
"We think that despite being in the government's jurisdiction, Khaleda Zia was not allowed to seek medical treatment abroad out of political vengeance," he said.
Meanwhile, the BNP and its alliance leaders have expressed anger over the government's decision not to allow Khaleda Zia to go abroad for medical treatment. They think the government is politicizing the issue of Khaleda Zia.
