Five people, including a teenager, died on the way to Banglabazar ferry terminal at Shibchar in Madaripur.
The tragic incident took place on Wednesday (May 12) at noon on the way from Shimulia Ghat to Banglabazar Ghat.
It is learned that four passengers lost consciousness in the scorching heat in the middle of the Padma when the roro ferry Enayetpuri en route from Shimulia to Banglabazar. They later died on the spot. Earlier, a teenager was killed after he got off another ferry. The house of the deceased teenager is in Naria of Shariatpur.
One of the dead has been identified. She is Nipa Begum (40) husband, Alamin Bepari, village Baligram, Kalkini upazila, Madaripur. The identities of the others have not yet been confirmed.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibchar Police Station Miraj Hossain said, 'Five people including a teenager died on the ferry. Maybe heat and heat stroke can cause death. '
