The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has remanded former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter, in custody for five days in connection with the murder of his wife Mahmuda Akhter Mitu on a public road in Chattogram. Two days have already passed. But a source close to the investigation said that Babul Akhtar was avoiding answering many questions about Mitu's murder.

On the morning of June 5, 2016, Mitu was publicly shot and hacked to death while he was going to pick up his son on a school bus at the GEC intersection in Chattogram city. Babul was in Dhaka at the time to be promoted and join the police headquarters. Earlier, he was in Chattogram City Detective Police.

After the murder, a case was filed in the city's Panchlaish police station accusing some unidentified persons, the plaintiff of which was Babul Akter himself.

The only direct witness to Mitu's murder was his son. A source confirmed that the PBI would also call the boy for questioning. The son has been with his father Babul Akhtar since his mother was killed. Babul-Mitu couple has two children.

On Saturday (May 15), Santosh Kumar Chakma, the investigating officer in the case, said about the remand that Babul Akter was very cunning. It is difficult to understand him. When asked, Babul avoids. In this situation we have decided to interrogate the son of Babul.

Asked when Babul-Mitu's son would be questioned, Santosh Kumar Chakma said, "We have made a decision that he will be questioned once Babul's remand is over." He is an important eyewitness in this case. He may also have various types of information.

Arguing the questioning of Babul Akhtar's son, the PBI official said, "His son was with Babul for a long time after Mitu was killed. What kind of behavior did his son Babul see at that time and what did he say about killing his children; It is important to know this information in the interest of investigating the case.
