Bangladesh has called on the United States to play an active role in ending the ongoing bloody violence between Israel and Palestine.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriyar Alam made this call when Earl Robert Miller, US Ambassador to Dhaka met with him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (May 17).

Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh is deeply concerned about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Middle East. Bangladesh reiterated at a recent meeting of the OIC Executive Committee that the Security Council should come forward to resolve the issue.

He said the United Nations and other countries would continue to play a role in resolving the crisis in the Middle East. But we think the United States has an opportunity to play a bigger role in resolving the crisis. Bangladesh also told a meeting of OIC foreign ministers on Sunday (May 17) that the United States had a big role to play. The US administration's swift action could help resolve the crisis.

The US ambassador told the State Minister that he had informed Washington about the Middle East crisis, especially the feelings of the people of Bangladesh towards the Palestinian people.

The Minister of State and the US Ambassador also discussed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, including the provision of vaccines to meet the immediate needs of Bangladesh.
