‘Yass’ turns into strong cyclone

Cyclone Yass intensified and turned into a very strong cyclone. The maximum sustained wind speed near the center is 120 kmph, increasing to 140 kmph in the form of gusts of wind. As a result, the sea is very rough.

This information was given by the Meteorological Department in the special bulletin number 13 related to Yass around 8:30 pm on Tuesday (May 25).

According to a special bulletin of the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Yass, which is located in the North West Bay of Bengal, has intensified and turned into a very strong cyclone. It was 555 km south-southwest of Chattogram port this afternoon and is 535 km south-southwest in the evening. Similarly, it was 520 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazaar in the afternoon and 505 km south-southwest in the evening. It was 425 km from Mongla port, now 320 km south of it and 420 km south of Payra port in the afternoon, now it is 430 km south.

The bulletin asked Chattogram, Cox's Bazaar, Mongla and Payra seaports to hoist local warning signal number 3.

During the cyclone, Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and Chattogram districts and their remote islands and chars with heavy to very heavy rainfall of 80 to 100 km per hour wind can blow.

Due to the effect of the full moon, the low lying areas of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and Chattogram may be inundated at a height of 3 to 6 feet above normal.
