27 upazillas affected by Yaas

Although the cyclone Yaas did not hit Bangladesh, it did have an impact. The high tide has affected people in 27 upazillas of nine coastal districts of the country.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman said this at a press conference on Wednesday (May 26) on the overall cyclone situation.

The state minister said 27 upazillas of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Noakhali and Laxmipur districts have been affected by the high tide.

The affected upazillas are: Shyamnagar, Asashuni, Koyra, Dakop, Paikgachha, Sharankhola, Mongla, Morelganj, Mathbaria, Barguna Sadar, Patharghata, Amtali, Patuakhali Sadar, Galachipa, Rangabali, Dashmina, Mirjaganj, Mirzaganj, , Borhanuddin, Bhola Sadar, Hatia, Ramgati and Kamalnagar.

The state minister said the deputy commissioners have been allotted adequate food items and cash to provide humanitarian assistance in response to any disaster. Besides, 16,500 packets of dry and other food items have been allotted to the concerned deputy commissioners to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims in 27 upazillas of nine coastal districts due to the rising tidal waters caused by cyclone Yaas on Wednesday.

The state minister also said control rooms have been set up in coastal districts and upazillas to exchange cyclone information. The NDRCC (National Disaster Response Coordination Center) of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been working round the clock to collect and exchange cyclone information.

According to the latest information received from the district administrations, the state minister also highlighted the condition of 14 coastal districts affected by cyclone Yaas.
