Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University at Rangpur Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah has filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking suspension of the investigation by University Grants Commission(UGC)into the allegations of irregularities and corruption in the various appointments in the University.

On Thursday (May 27), his lawyer Md. Shahidullah confirmed the filing of the writ. He said the writ petition was filed in the High Court on May 23. The writ petition challenged the validity of the UGC's notice summoning Kalimullah.

Earlier on May 15, the UGC issued a notice to BRUR VC Kalimullah for questioning. The writ petition also sought suspension of the notice.

Lawyer Shahidullah further said that on April 13, the UGC issued a notice to VC Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah to appear with relevant documents alleging irregularities in the recruitment of two employees at Begum Rokeya University. But on May 12, Kalimullah sent an application to the UGC asking him to appear before the office after the ongoing lockdown. He (Kalimullah) said in the application that he is 60 years old and due to the Covid pandemic he cannot go to the University for relevant documents.

He added that the UGC's senior assistant secretary (law) had issued a notice to Kalimullah on May 20 requesting him to appear at the UGC office with relevant documents which is illegal and has no legal basis.
