The government's fear of an increase in the number of cases for shopping and going home without complying with the health restrictions on the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is now coming true. Infections are increasing every day. The rate of this infection is especially high in the border areas of the country.

Health directorate sources said on Friday (May 28) that a lockdown had been imposed in the border district of Chapainawabganj to prevent infection. If the situation deteriorates, a lockdown may be given in Satkhira, Rajshahi and Khulna districts.

Director General of Health (DG) Professor Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam told the media that a lockdown has already been enforced in Chapainawabganj district. In addition, three more districts are under observation. There are plans to lock them down as soon as the infection increases.

The DG further said that when the lockdown was announced in Chapainawabganj district, the infection rate was over 40 percent. And in other districts the infection is still much lower. Now if the rate of infection continues to increase then area based lockdown will be enforced.

Earlier on Monday (May 24), the local administration announced a seven-day special lockdown in Chapainawabganj district to bring the corona infection under control. During this time, shops in the district will be closed and inter-district road communication will be closed. Besides, the district administration also gave 11-point instructions to implement the lockdown.

It is to be mentioned that the first patient infected with coronavirus (Covid-19) was identified in the country on March 8 last year. Ten days later, on March 18, the first person died of the coronavirus.
