The government has decided to extend the land border closure till June 14 due to India's coronavirus (Covid-19) infection. Bangladesh's land border with India has been closed since April 26.

A senior foreign ministry official confirmed the information on Saturday night (May 29), saying a meeting on closing the land border with India due to the Corona situation had decided today to keep the border closed for another 14 days.

The meeting also decided to stop Bangladeshis from returning from India with the Sonamukhi port in Chapainawabganj, the official said. He said that corona infection is more prevalent in Chapainawabganj. So for now, it has been decided to stop the return of Bangladeshis to the country with Sonamukhi port. However, only 88 people have returned through that port so far. They are all under strict quarantine.

On April 26, the land border was closed for the first time for 14 days. Then on May 7, the border closure was extended for another 14 days. However, Bangladesh's freight traffic with India continues.
