Benefits of incentives should be delivered to the marginal farmers: Food Minister

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said farmers are getting a fair price for their crops because of the government's timely plan. Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving various incentives for the farmers, he said the benefits of incentives should be extended to the marginal farmers.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function in Mymensingh's Khagdahar on Friday (June 4).

He said the country has produced adequate crops this year. He directed to collect paddy from marginal farmers to ensure fair price of the farmer's crop.

He added that the country's food grain reserves are currently around one million metric tonnes. The Minister directed the food department officials to closely monitor the ongoing procurement drive to increase stocks.

The Food Minister said the government is working to ensure food security for the people of the country. Strict action will be taken against unscrupulous groups if they try to stockpile food grains. At the same time, he called upon all to work in unity to build the golden Bengal, the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Director General of the Directorate of Food, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque, Superintendent of Police Moha. Ahmar Uzzaman, District Council Administrator Yusuf Khan Pathan and local Awami League leaders spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the Food Minister inspected the progress of CSD's modern steel silo construction project and inaugurated the newly constructed CSD office building. He later planted a tree sapling in the office premises.

It may be mentioned that the construction work of this office building was completed in May at a cost of around Tk. 2 crore.
