The Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) has decided in principle to approve the clinical trial of the corona vaccine Bangavax produced by local pharmaceutical company Globe Biotech Limited.

The company announced the decision on Wednesday (June 16).

Earlier, on January 17 this year, Globe Biotech applied to BMRC for permission to test the coronavirus vaccine 'Bangavax'. It is expected to be applied to volunteers for trial in a private hospital in the capital within seven to ten days of approval.

An organization called Clinical Research Organization (CRO) has applied to start a clinical trial on behalf of Globe Biotech. It is a BMRC approved organization. They are in charge of managing the clinical trials of Bangavax.

On October 5 last year, Globe Biotech reported that their first vaccine had been successful in a pre-clinical trial on rats. Researchers first named the vaccine Bancovid. Later its name was changed to Bangavax.

On 17 October, along with two more Globe Biotech vaccines, Bangavax was included in the World Health Organization's draft Landscape and Tracker of Covid-19 vaccine.

On January 8, the company received approval from the Directorate of Health to produce the required dose for clinical trials. Globe Biotech initially entered into a clinical trial agreement with ICDDRB. The contract was later canceled and the company entered into a contract with the CRO.
