Lockdown in Rajshahi city extended to June 24

The deadline for all-out lockdown in Rajshahi city has been extended to June 24. The decision was taken at a meeting on the Corona situation at the Circuit House at 8 pm on Wednesday (June 16).

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Qayyum Talukder, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Shariful Haque and others took part.

At the end of the meeting, City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said, "There are  still patients at home and in the neighborhood now." Even with the first seven days of lockdown, there has been no visible improvement of the situation. So it has been decided to extend the lockdown for another seven days. Rajshahi metropolitan lockdown will remain in force till June 24.

Earlier, after an emergency meeting on the situation of Corona in Rajshahi on the night of June 10, a lockdown was enforced from 5 pm on June 11 to midnight on June 17. Rickshaw, auto-rickshaws have also been seen plying during lockdown. During a briefing on Wednesday night, RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique said the patient was found after catching a rickshaw, auto-rickshaw along with prescriptions. So we had to give up for humanitarian reasons. However, this time the seven-day lockdown will be implemented more strictly.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil called for a lockdown in the metropolis. But the communication of the upazilla with the city will be cut off, so the district is also going into an unannounced lockdown. He said only emergency service offices would remain open in the city during the lockdown. All other offices and courts will be closed.

The deputy commissioner said that the instructions given by the central bank in case of lockdown would be applicable to the banks. All markets, shops, entertainment centers, hotels, restaurants in the city will be closed. The sidewalk service from the restaurant will also be closed. All types of public transport will be prohibited in Rajshahi metropolis except emergency.

Corona patients are increasing every day in Rajshahi. 12-13 people are dying in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital every day. About half of them are patients from Rajshahi. During the briefing on the lockdown, City Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton said that the Indian Delta variant has entered Rajshahi from Chapainawabganj. So there are corona patients at home and in the neighborhood now.
