A budget of Tk. 6 lakh 3 thousand 681 crore has been passed in the Jatiyo Sangsad(JS) for the new financial year.
The budget proposal for the fiscal year 2021-22 was passed by voice vote in a meeting of JS chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury on Wednesday (June 30). The budget will be effective from July 1.
Leader of the House Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader were present on the occasion. Earlier on June 3, the Finance Minister presented the budget in the parliament. After that the proposed budget was discussed at length in the JS sessions.
This year's budget has given authority to the marginalized people of the country. The budget is a combination of the government's past achievements and the current situation that has arisen. The health sector has been given the most importance in the budget for a good reason. Besides, implementation of incentive packages announced by the Prime Minister, agriculture, food production and management have been given more importance in tackling Covid-19.
In the budget of 2021-22 financial year, the total expenditure has been estimated at Tk. 6 lakh 3 thousand 681 crore. This is 17.5% of the total GDP. A total of Tk. 3 lakh 78thousand 357 crore has been allocated for other sectors including management and Tk. 2 lakh 25 thousand 324 crore has been allocated for the annual development program.
