A picture has gone viral after a ferry hit the pillar of the Padma Bridge so that the pillar of the bridge has been damaged. According to the bridge authorities, the image that went viral through social media is fake.

Their idea is that the fake picture is being spread to spread propaganda.

A general diary (GD) has been filed in this regard at Munshiganj's Louhjong police station on Saturday (August 14).

Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader said, the viral fake picture of the damage on the pillar of Padma Bridge has come to our notice. A GD has been lodged with the police station to take legal action against those who spread the image.

As seen in the viral picture, part of the pile cap of a pillar is broken and falling into the river. Facebook users are writing various comments using this image. The picture went viral after the Kakali ferry hit the 10th pillar of the bridge yesterday morning.

According to the bridge division sources, the pillars of the Padma Bridge were not damaged even though the ferry hit four times in a month. A little plaster has developed minor damage on the pile cap of the pillar, which will cost little money to repair.

According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources, on July 20, the first Ro- RO Ferry Shah Makhdum hit the Padma Bridge’s pillar No. 16 and the floor of the Ferry became cracked. On 23 July, another Ro-Ro ferry Hazrat Shahjalal from Banglabazar Ghat in Madaripur hit pillar No. 17, damaging it. Then on last Monday evening the Ro-Ro ferry Birshrestha Jahangir hit pillar number 10. In these cases, plaster has fallen in the water adjacent to the pillar of the bridge (pile cap) and created holes.
