Five people were killed and 30 others injured in a bus-truck collision in Mymensingh's Trishal upazila.
The accident took place at Bailar Barapukur Par on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal on Saturday (August 14) evening.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a truck had been parked in the area of Bailar Barapukur Par on the highway since morning. A passenger bus of Imam Paribahan bound for Haluaghat from Dhaka lost control and hit the back of the truck at 8pm on Saturday evening. Three people were killed on the spot. Later, two more died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Their identities were not immediately known. The fire service rescued at least 30 injured passengers and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station Main Uddin confirmed the incident. The death toll could rise, he said. The identities of the immediate victims could not be ascertained.
Selim Mia, duty officer of Mymensingh Fire Service, said five units of the fire service were working at the spot.
