Dhaka: The rivers of the country have been rising for several days. The water level of other rivers except Meghna basin continued to rise on Monday. The water of the Teesta has flowed over the danger zone. This has worsened the flood situation in the lower parts of several districts of the country. Thousands of people have been marooned.

On the one hand, mountain slopes are coming from upstream, on the other hand, if the rainfall in the country increases, the water level of rivers may increase further, said meteorologists.

Meanwhile, 2,500 families have been inundated due to floods caused by heavy rains and rising water in the river. More than 2,000 families have been marooned in Sonkarda, Charichali, Chilakhal, Char Matukpur and Binbina areas of Laxmitari Union.

Kolkonda UP chairman Sohrab Ali Raju said 1,300 families in his union were marooned . Lakshmitari UP chairman Abdullah Al Hadi said 1,000 families in four chars of his union and 200 families in Nohali union were flooded.

Five thousand families of 15 char villages of Purbachhatnai, Khagakharibari, Tepakharibari, Khalisha Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani and Gayabari Union of Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari have been suffering due to rising and falling water in Teesta for four days in a row.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, all major rivers in the country except the Meghna Basin are rising, which may continue for the next 48 hours. The flood situation in the Teesta basin is likely to remain static in the next 24 hours. In the next 24 hours, the water level at Goalundo Point of the Padma River may cross the danger line. This may lead to deterioration of flood situation in Rajbari and Faridpur districts.

The Flood Forecasting Center said that moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in the next 72 hours in the south-eastern and southern coastal areas of the country. As a result, the water level in the southeastern Cox's Bazaar district and the southern coastal rivers may rise rapidly.

According to the weather forecast, light to moderate showers and thundershowers with temporary gusts are likely to take place in many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barisal and some parts of Khulna division. At the same time, there may be moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the country.
