Jatiya Party(JP) Chairman and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader has announced his candidature for the Rangpur-3 constituency in the next parliamentary elections. Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad alias Saad Ershad, son of the late Hussein Muhammad Ershad, the founder of the Jatiya Party, is currently the Member of Parliament from this seat.

In another announcement, the chairman of Jatiya Party has announced Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa as the Mayoral candidate in Rangpur City Corporation.

Calling on the party leaders and workers to start their election campaign from now on, he said, "I have announced in advance that if anyone disobeys my instructions and becomes a candidate for the post of Mayor, strict action will be taken against him." When he raised the hand of Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, the leaders and workers present applauded and expressed their support.

GM Quader made the announcement while addressing a workers meeting at the District Jatiya Party office at Central Road in Rangpur on Saturday (August 21) afternoon.

The JP Chairman said there are only three political parties in the country now - Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party. The rest of the parties have been swept away like the waters of the flood. There is no rule of law in the country; the country is not running according to the law.

The mass tide created in the Jatiya Party is evident by the fact that leaders and activists from different parties have joined the Jatiya Party. Also many who do not do politics have lined up to join the party.

Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad alias Saad Ershad, son of late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, the founder of Jatiya Party, is currently a Member of Parliament in Rangpur-3 (Sadar) constituency. GM Quader is a Member of Parliament for Lalmonirhat-3 constituency.

With this announcement of the chairman, Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad is not getting a party nomination in Rangpur-3 constituency in the next parliamentary elections.

Earlier, when he reached the party office, a large number of leaders and activists welcomed GM Quader with flowers. Rangpur City Mayor Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, City unit General Secretary SM Yasir, District General Secretary Abdur Razzak and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.
