Meeting on UP elections on Monday

The Election Commission (EC) will hold meeting on Monday (August 23) to reschedule the Union Parishad (UP) elections, which were postponed due to the corona pandemic.

The meeting will be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda at 11:30 am on Monday (August 23), EC officials said.

In the 84th commission meeting, the EC will meet on 7 agendas including UP elections and parliamentary by-elections.

According to commission sources, the first phase of the postponed 163 union parishads may be scheduled to be held in mid-September. At the same time, the schedule for the second phase of UP elections may also be announced. On April 11, in the first phase, the EC announced the schedule for voting in 367 UPs of the country. But due to the increase in corona infection, the election was postponed on April 1.

EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said Monday's meeting would discuss union council elections, including by-elections.
