Dhaka: The number of dengue patients in the country is increasing by leaps and bounds. Death is also increasing. Twice as many deaths have occurred in the 22 days of August as in July. This year, 36 people have died of dengue in the country. Of these, 12 died last month. And 24 people have died in the last 22 days of this month.

According to the National Malaria Eradication and Aedes-Borne Disease Control Program of the Department of Disease Control of the Directorate of Health, Aedes Survey 2021, dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes are most prevalent in the two areas of the capital Dhaka. The mosquito density there is 73.3 percent. These two areas are Basabo and Goran. On the other hand, the source of Aedes was not found at all in Aftabnagar, Merul Badda and Bangshal. In addition, the highest larvae and pupae were found in the water of various frozen multi-storey buildings, which is 44.2 percent.

The survey was conducted for 10 days from July 29 to August 6. The program was conducted by 20 teams of the Disease Control Branch of the Directorate of Health in 100 places in 98 wards of Dhaka North and South City Corporation area. At the end of the daily survey, the city corporation was informed about the daily information including the addresses of the positive houses.

According to the data presented, the highest density index was found in Dhaka North City area at 56.7 in Maghbazar-New Eskaton, 48.4 in Nikunja and adjoining areas, 47.8 in Kalyanpur-Darussalam and 43.3 in Mirpur-10-Kazipara and 40 percent in Mohakhali-Niketan. 73.3 per cent in Basabo-Goran in South City, 66.7 per cent in Elephant Road-Science Lab, 50 per cent in RK Mission Road-Tikatuli and 40 per cent in Banasree-Minto Road-Bailey Road.

Among the most positive containers in the survey, the maximum was 18.5 in water stored on the floor, 12.1 in plastic drums, 9.4 in plastic buckets, 7.5 in flower tubs and trays, 6.9 in discarded car tires, 6.8 in other and 3 in paint cans. 2% larvae and pupa matched. Of these, 44.2 per cent were found in multi-storey buildings in residential areas, 24.5 per cent in single buildings, 19.1 per cent in buildings under construction, 9.7 per cent in slum areas and 2.8 per cent in abandoned lands.

Entomologists say that Aedes mosquito can be considered endangered if its unit of density measurement is more than 20. Outbreaks of chikungunya and dengue are on the rise in these areas. As the density increases, so will the risk in that area. Areas where the Bruto Index is found to be more than 50 can be said to be extremely risky since the Bruto Index of more than 50 has been found in eight areas of four wards of two city corporations of Dhaka. Therefore, these eight areas can be called very risky. According to them, Basabo, Goran, Elephant Road, Science Lab, Maghbazar, New Eskaton, RK Mission Road, Tikatuli are the eight most dangerous areas.

Experts say that although adults are more affected by dengue than children, the risk of children is relatively higher because absolutely young children cannot tell or explain their symptoms. As a result, it is too late for the parents to understand. By then the child may have reached a dangerous stage.
