12 Bangladeshis have left Afghanistan

Dhaka: Twelve Bangladeshis have already left Afghanistan through Kabul airport with the help of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

A foreign ministry official made the announcement on Saturday (August 28).

He said 12 Bangladeshis have already left Afghanistan safely. Six of them left Afghanistan on Friday with 160 students from the Bangladeshi Asian University for Women. And six more Bangladeshis left Kabul on Saturday afternoon. They will return to Bangladesh via Qatar. Three more Bangladeshis are there. The government is working to bring them back.

He said Bangladesh has no embassy in Afghanistan. Therefore, the Bangladesh Embassy in Uzbekistan works in Afghanistan as a similar distant mission.

Earlier, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said 12 Bangladeshis stranded in Afghanistan were under supervision at Kabul airport by US troops. Soon they will leave for Bangladesh on a chartered flight.

On August 15, the Taliban captured the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. After that the citizens of different countries as well as the people of the country are leaving the country.
