Police Inspector Sohel Rana detained in India dismissed

Banani Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sohail Rana, who is associated with e-commerce company E-Orange, has been suspended for allegedly embezzling customer’s money.

Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan) Asaduzzaman confirmed the suspension of Sohel Rana on Sunday (September 5) evening.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed had said that action would be taken against Banani Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sohail Rana. Dhaka Police Commissioner Moha  Shafiqul Islam at noon also said that Sohail Rana will be dismissed as soon as he gets the report of Gulshan division about his absence.

Later in the evening, Sohail Rana was suspended.

Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan) Asaduzzaman said the news of his detention from the Indo-Nepal border area had been published in various news outlets, including Indian newspapers, and he had been suspended for his absence at his workplace.

There has also been a regular case against Rana, which will be investigated, Asaduzzaman said.

A fraud case against E-Orange at Gulshan police station was filed in July for embezzling Tk. 1,100 crore of 1 lakh customers. The names of 29 aggrieved customers have been mentioned in the case. On their behalf, the victim Taherul Islam became the complainant in the case. Three people, including e-Orange owner Sonia Mehzabin and her husband Mashukur Rahman, are now in jail. The two, including Bithi Akhter, have fled. The complainant in the case said that Bithi Akhter is the fourth wife of police officer Sohail Rana.
