Classes at primary, secondary and higher secondary level, which have been closed for more than a year and a half due to corona, will start teaching from September 12. But it has not been decided yet when the country's universities will be opened. Education Minister Dipu Moni is sitting in a meeting with the vice-chancellors this week to take that decision.
She made the remarks after an inter-ministerial meeting in the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 5).
The meeting decided to start physical classes in schools and colleges from September 12 after being closed for almost a year and a half due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Asked when the university would reopen, the Education Minister said she had talked to the Vice Chancellors of the universities that the university would reopen at least two weeks after all the students had received one dose of vaccine. In that light mid-October was fixed to reopen. But in the current situation, I may meet with the Vice-Chancellors again this week. If they observe the situation there and decide that they are ready to open the university before October.
She said since the decisions of the universities are made by their syndicate and academically, they will take the decision. But we will have a meeting with them again.
"This time around, we're seeing a sharp drop in our infection rate," she said. Our experience last year showed that the rate of infection was much lower in November-December. Therefore, the rate of infection is declining and according to the opinion and information of experts, from the beginning to the end of August alone, the rate of infection has come down by about 80 percent. In addition to the current situation, our vaccination program is moving at a tremendous pace.
Due to corona, holidays have been going on in the educational institutions of the country since March 17 last year. According to the latest announcement of the government, there is a holiday till September 11. Educational institutions from primary to higher secondary level will be opened from September 12. As a result of this new decision, the holiday is no longer increasing.
