17 Covid-19 deaths, 518 new cases recorded in 24 hours: DGHS

A total of 17 people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8:00am Wednesday, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country now stands at 27,730 and the death rate stood at 1.77 percent.

Some 518 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 15,64,019.

The current positivity rate is 2.34 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 15.61 percent.

A total of 22,153 samples were tested across the country in the 24 hours. Besides, at least 505 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 15,25,673 and the recovery rate at 97.54 percent.

Of the deceased, eight were men and nine were women. Of them, three were between 41-50, two between 51-60 and 12 were above 60 years old, added the release.

Mentionable, the first case of Covid-19 infection was detected in Bangladesh on last March 8, 2020 while the first death occurred on March 18.
