Earl Robert Miller, the outgoing US ambassador, said human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It has no place in our world.

He was speaking at the opening of a workshop organized by the Fight Slavery and Trafficking in Persons (FSTIP) project on Wednesday (January 12).

"Joining you in preventing human trafficking is one of the priorities of the United States Embassy," Miller said. Through this workshop, we reaffirmed our commitment to partnering with the Government of Bangladesh, civil society, the private sector and those freed from trafficking to stop human trafficking.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque inaugurated the workshop. The workshop was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Strong cooperation between the United States and Bangladesh has resulted in the formation of seven special tribunals for human trafficking (TIP) trials and the implementation of a five-year national action plan to combat human trafficking.
