Police week is starting today, Sunday. Police Headquarters has made all sorts of preparations to celebrate the Police Week in the wake of Corona's upward spiral. IGP Dr. Benazir Ahmed has given strict instructions to the members at the field level through police officers to implement the health rules. He gave the instructions at a meeting with senior officials at the police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.
President Abdul Hamid on the occasion of Police Week and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages. Inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War, the President called upon the members of the police to ensure services to the people by performing their duties with patriotism, honesty and sincerity. The Prime Minister said Bangladesh Police has been working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the country, curb crime and establish rule of law.
According to police sources, the annual parade will be held at Rajarbagh Police Lines ground at 10 am today on the first day of the police week under the slogan 'Skilled Police, Prosperous Country, Bangabandhu's Bangladesh'. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be virtually connected in this. After that dinner will be held at the same place at 7:30 pm. On the second day, the Shield Parade Fine Competition will be held on Monday from 8 am to 10 am and prizes will be distributed from 11 am to 12 noon. There will be a banquet at 1 pm. There will be reunions with retired police officers from 6 pm to 9:30 pm.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will hold a meeting with senior officials next Tuesday from 10 am to 12 noon. The Chief Justice will give a virtual speech from the Chief Justice's conference with senior officials from 3 pm to 4:30 pm and at 7:30 pm. Abdul Hamid will give a virtual speech. The next day, the IGP will hold a conference with senior police officials from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday. On the last day of the police week, there will be a conference of ministers of different ministries with senior police officers from 10 am to 1 pm on Thursday. The police week is scheduled to end on the same day with a conference with the cabinet secretary from 4 to 5 p.m.
Although the police officers meet with the Prime Minister every year, it has been canceled due to the Corona situation. However, the demands of the police will be communicated to the Prime Minister in writing. The demands will be raised in the meeting with the Home Minister.
It is learned that the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and Presidential Police Medal (PPM) were awarded on the occasion of Police Week. Police Week was not celebrated last year due to the Corona situation. As a result, this year 230 officers are getting medals in 2020 and 2021. Every year the Prime Minister gives this medal. But this time the Home Minister will give them a medal.
