Prime Minister directs authorities to remove garbages far away from locality

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to remove the waste of the city corporation from the city to prevent bad smell and environmental pollution.

The directive was given by the Prime
Minister at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (February 8), Planning Minister MA Mannan said after the meeting.

Earlier, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Prime Minister was connected through video conferencing from Ganobhaban.

The meeting also approved a project at a cost of Tk 333.32 crore to reduce traffic congestion in the area under Dhaka South City Corporation by removing and managing waste, procuring modern vehicles and equipment used for road repairs and setting up mechanized parking.

The Prime Minister gave these instructions while approving the project, said the Planning Minister.Highlighting the Prime Minister's directive, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to set up the waste treatment plant of the city corporation outside the locality. At the same time, she directed to employ skilled drivers in the waste vehicles of the city corporation.

She said that recently several accidents have taken place in the garbage trucks of Dhaka South and North City. Which is very sad. We are all saddened by this.

The Prime Minister is aware of the issues. Therefore, he said, under the new project, skilled people should be ensured in the vehicles purchased for waste management in South City.

The drivers of the trucks that have been appointed will have to undergo special training. I don't want to see these incidents (accidents) anymore.

He added that the Prime Minister had said that these treatment plants should be set up outside the city. They need to add modern technology. The latest technology has to be used in both chemical and physical fields.
