Eminent citizens have called on the Search Committee to ensure that no beneficiary of either government or political parties gets a chance in the upcoming Election Commission(EC).
DU Law Professor Asif Nazrul made the remarks after a meeting of eminent citizens with the search committee held at the Supreme Court on Saturday (February 12).
He said no one's name had been proposed, but everyone was saying that those who would get a chance in the(EC) should not be special beneficiaries during any previous government.
The first meeting of the Search Committee started at 11 am in the conference lounge of the Supreme Court with eminent citizens.
14 out of 20 prominent citizens were present in this meeting of the first phase. Among them were former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Majumder, Dhaka University vice-chancellor ASM Maqsood Kamal, Professor Borhan Uddin Khan, Professor Asif Nazrul, senior lawyers Fida M Kamal and MK Rahman, lawyer Shahdin Malik, executive director of Brati Sharmin Murshid and Munira Khan, President of Fair Election Monitoring Alliance (FEMA).
