Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has suggested using simple foreign words instead of using complex Bengali terminology of any foreign word.

"We have to accept the words that are widely used and internationally used in whatever language they come from," she said. When I go to use the terminology there, I will not understand anything, I will not be able to say anything, let it not happen because I don't believe in having synonyms or terminology everywhere.

She was speaking at the inauguration of a four-day program organized by the International Mother Language Institute on Monday (February 21) on the occasion of Great Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day. The Prime Minister joined the event organized by the International Mother Tongue Institute through a video conference from Ganobhaban.

"I would like to request the International Mother Language Institute to look into how mother language can be made accessible to people, in addition to mother language practice and research," she said. I think research on this subject is absolutely necessary.

She advised to be careful in using the term, saying that the Bengali word for 'content' is 'adheya' but many people will not understand if they say that. But if you say 'content', you will understand.

Sheikh Hasina said that in this age of science, as science is spreading, there are languages of different countries of the world, also English, French or other languages which have been added to it. And in our Bengali language, 8 thousand words have merged. Therefore, science education can be easily arranged in Bengali language by using the conventional words and the conventional science terms without being too ‘conservative’ in this regard.

The Prime Minister said there is no progress without science practice and research. Research is essential in all fields including health, education, industry and other sciences.

The most important thing is that science education, science research and the knowledge gained through research should be used easily for the welfare of the people.

The Prime Minister said that the Father of the Nation had given utmost importance to the practice of science and scientific research. Dr. Qudrat-e-Khuda was given the responsibility.

Emphasizing on creating Bangla content on our computers and internet as well as making the use of Bangla keyboard easier, the Prime Minister said work is underway in this regard.

Mentioning that we have achieved the status of a developing country today, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh must now be established as our developed country. In order to do this, research on all subjects including language, literature, cultural practice, science practice and science research is absolutely necessary. So we are working with that in mind.

The Prime Minister advised the Mother Language Institute to make efforts to make it easier for our children to read and publish various publications on science and technology and new discoveries in different countries besides practicing their mother language.

"We need to look at how to make it easier for the people of our country to come up with new discoveries in the age of science," she said. However, it is better not to confuse conventional scientific terms by making them more obscure. Once they are used, they will merge with our Bengali language.
