Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that we have to think about the weeds and parasites conspiring against the development and progress of the country.

She made the remarks at a discussion organized by Awami League on the occasion of Great Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Tuesday (February 22). She joined the program via video conference from the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban.

She said that Bengalis have to think for themselves what to do with ‘weeds’.

Sheikh Hasina said, the Father of the Nation used to say one thing- ‘The soil of Bangladesh is so fertile that just as crops are grown here, many parasitic weeds also grow there. This weed will remain just that. But the Bengalis have to think for themselves what to do with this weed because, we want to bring the benefits of our independence to the doorsteps of the people of Bangladesh. I want to ensure a better life for people.

‘It is our wish that this Bengali from all walks of life, in education, in the practice of culture, will continue to raise their head in the world court with their own dignity and self-glory. This is our commitment to the language martyr, the freedom martyr and the father of the nation, she said.

The Prime Minister said, "We have some things which we do not want to achieve, because they prefer to be bound in the shackles of subjugation. This class never knows how to carry on with self-esteem. They get self-satisfaction by selling dignity. And that class still remains in our society.

"That's why no matter how much we develop, the whole world sees that development, but some people in the country don't seem to see any development blindly, '' she said. And they are hesitant to talk about this achievement. Why such a mentality, it surprises itself and the question arises.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has gained status in the world court as it has become independent. Today, those who have given blood for language have got the status of martyr because they have become independent because today 21st February is not only ours but also internationally recognized all over the world. So it is because of their great sacrifice that we have been able to achieve this great achievement. As the Father of the Nation has always said- great sacrifice is required for great achievement.

Sheikh Hasina said, we have to continue with this dignity.
