In the case filed under the Digital Security Act and the Special Powers Act, the police have pressed a charge sheet against four persons including former SP Babul Akhtar and expatriate journalist Ilyas Hossain.

On Tuesday (April 25), the investigating officer of the case, Police Inspector (Operation) of Dhanmondi Model Police Station Rabiul Islam confirmed this to the media.

The other two accused in the charge sheet in this case are Babul Akhter's brother Md. Habibur Rahman Labu and father Md. Abdul Wadud Mia.

April 27 is scheduled for filing the case report. The charge sheet will be presented in the court on this day.

Earlier, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) chief Banaj Kumar Majumder filed a case as the complainant at Dhanmondi police station in the capital on September 27 last year. The case has been charged under the Digital Security Act and the Special Powers Act.

In the statement of the case, the PBI chief complained that the sensational Mitu murder case was revealed in the investigation as the main accused of former police superintendent Babul Akhtar while under the investigation of the investigative agency PBI headed by me. He was arrested during the investigation. Babul Akhtar, who is in jail, and Ilyas, a journalist based abroad, and the rest of the accused hatched a conspiracy to divert the investigation of the case and tarnish the image of the police. Following this, on the direct and indirect instigation of Babul Akhtar and other accused, journalist Ilyas Hossain uploaded a documentary video clip on September 3, 2022 through his Facebook ID with the title 'Wife killed, husband in jail, murderer gets responsibility of investigation'. In the video, an attempt has been made to divert the investigation of Mitu murder case, which is under investigation, into a different sector by making it controversial and questionable through various false and baseless information.

The PBI chief mentioned in the statement that various information and statements in the video documentary are false. The video attempts to damage the country's image and India's friendly relations with Bangladesh. Attempts have also been made to create enmity, hatred, destruction of communal harmony and unrest and disorder among the Hindu Muslim community of the state.
