Bangabandhu's tomb turns into a pilgrimage site: President

President Md. Sahabuddin said, Tungipara, the burial place of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has become a place of pilgrimage today. The President said this on his way back to Dhaka after paying respects at Bangabandhu's tomb.

He said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the nationalist leader of not only the Bengali nation, but the Bengali nation of the whole world. His burial place has become a shrine today.

After being sworn in as the 22nd President of Bangladesh last Monday, this is his first state wreath-laying and tribute at the Father of the Nation's mausoleum today.

Valiant freedom fighter and senior politician Md. Sahabuddin said, after August 15, 1975, while I was in hiding, one day I listened to a program of Kolkata Akashvani. There the well known commentator Devdulal Bandyopadhyay was saying, those who killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and those who buried him in distant Tungipara with cruel negligence but that careless and neglected burial place will one day become a place of pilgrimage for the Bengali nation all over the world.

The President said, standing on the Padma Bridge on the way back from Tungipara to Dhaka, “I am observing the beautiful form of Padma for a very short time and thinking about the contribution of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina.”

Due to the Padma Bridge built with its own funding, Sahabuddin said, today Bangladesh and the Bengali nation are known to the whole world as a self-reliant and dignified nation.

He mentioned that this was possible only because of the firmness and honesty of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Head of state said, standing here today, I thought - wait a little, see a little. This achievement, this symbol of self-reliance, this pride is difficult to appreciate without standing for a while.

President Sahabuddin said, she (Prime Minister) has fulfilled the expectations of the nation and has taken the Bengali nation and Bangladesh to great heights - which is truly enviable.
