BSMMU is taking initiative to develop dengue vaccine

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said that dengue vaccine will be researched in the country. Initiatives will be taken to develop vaccine to prevent Aedes mosquito-borne dengue infection in the country.

On Saturday (August 5) in the auditorium of the university, the Vice-Chancellor gave this information in an exchange meeting with the media titled 'We want anti-dengue social movement'.

He said, we will take initiative to research and develop dengue vaccine in BSMMU. At this time, Prof. Dr. Sharfuddin Ahmed instructed the virology department of the university to start work quickly regarding the preparation of vaccine.

Vice-Chancellor said, this is the situation today because we do not deal with dengue throughout the year in our country. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University is the best place to do any work, research in healthcare. Here we will build dengue research institute. Doctors of BSMMU will also work shoulder to shoulder with Dengue Prevention Committee.

Dr. Sharfuddin Ahmed said, the initiative to develop a social movement is good. That's why we all have to go on the streets to make people aware. Everyone should know, now the type of dengue has changed.

Urging everyone to be more aware, the vice-chancellor said that water cannot be allowed to accumulate anywhere in the house-roof, flower tubs. Commode should be covered after use. Dhaka North City Corporation will apply BTI to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae from tomorrow. It is working very well in Singapore. Hope it will work for us here too.

A Dengue Prevention Committee has been constituted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to combat dengue infection. In the committee, the Deputy Speaker of the Jatiyo Sangsad, Shahsul Haque Tuku, is the chief advisor, the Director General of the Directorate of Health, Professor Dr. ABM Khurshid Alam advisor and BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed has been made the chairman. Ali Niamat, Editor-in-Chief of Dainik Bangajanani and The National News USA has been made the President.
