A driver named Monir (25) was arrested with a large quantity of local weapons and vehicles in Gopalpur of Tangail. The arrested Monir is the son of Lokman of Sameshpur village of the Upazila. He is a microbus driver.
He was arrested from the area adjacent to Gopalpur Police Station on Wednesday (December 20) around 9 pm.
According to upazila administration sources, under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Abu Bakar Sarkar of the Deputy Commissioner's office, the members of the law enforcement forces searched the area adjacent to the police station of Gopalpur pourashava, focusing on the national elections. Meanwhile, a signal was given to stop the microbus carrying indigenous weapons. The two occupants of the vehicle fled. The driver was later arrested with the weapons.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalpur Police Station Ziaul Morshed said that Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nazmul Hasan and Executive Magistrate Abu Bakar Sarkar of Deputy Commissioner's office attended the scene and arrested the microbus driver with the help of RAB and police. He was later handed over to Rab. The accused is yet to be handed over to the police.
