The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested nine people on suspicion of train sabotage by raiding the airport railway station area of the capital.
On Thursday (December 21) at a press conference at 11.45, the Commander of RAB-1 Colonel Mohammad Mostaq Ahmed said this information.
He said that they were arrested after raiding the airport railway station area. However, their names were not immediately known.
Mostaq Ahmad said the arrested used to vandalize the railway lines and trains during the ongoing strike-blockade in return for a small reward. Recently a train coming from Netrakona to Tejgaon railway station was set on fire. Four people including mother and child were killed in this incident. In continuation of that, nine people were arrested in a raid from evening with the cooperation of RAB and intelligence agency NSI.
He said, initially I found out - they implement the agenda in exchange for a small amount of money for some nefarious circles. Arrested people set fire to various places. There are already various cases against the arrested. They will be extensively interrogated. After the interrogation, I will collect information from them and take legal action.
The captain of RAB-1 said, "We will ensure the safety of the railway in coordination with the railway security forces and other intelligence agencies." Our ongoing operations will continue until train passengers feel safe.
In response to the question of whether there is a risk of fire in the train in the future and what kind of additional security is being provided? Colonel Muhammad Mostaq Ahmad said, first there was arson on the bus-truck. But recently arson is being done in railways. Due to which the law enforcement forces and various intelligence agencies are continuing their activities. Arsonists will never get away with doing this kind of thing. At various railway stations we have intelligence agencies in plain clothes. We are monitoring the arrival and departure of trains. Hopefully, the vandals will not have the courage to do this kind of work again.
Asked whether there was any deficiency in the railway security force in the fire incident, he said that an investigation committee has been formed in the fire incident. It will come out in the investigation. We will provide whatever support is required for smooth travel of the passengers.
Are there well-defined allegations of sabotage? In response to such questions, the RAB official said that they were detained based on intelligence information. They are suspected saboteurs. They were involved in various acts of sabotage. There is a case of sabotage against them.
In another question, Mostaq Ahmad said, we have collected the database of all the criminals from Tongi to Kamalapur. We are constantly monitoring these accused.
