A new 35-member cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been formed after the 12th parliamentary election. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain confirmed on Wednesday (January 10).
This cabinet is being formed with old and new faces to build a smart Bangladesh of the future.
The new ministers are AKM Mozammel Haque, Obaidul Quader, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dr Dipu Moni, Md. Tajul Islam, Faruk Khan, Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, Advocate Anisul Huq, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Abdus Shahid, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, R.A.M Obaidul Muktadir, Abdur Rahman, Narayan Chandra Chanda, Abdus Salam, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Noufel, Farhad Hossain, Faridul Haque Khan, Zillul Hakim, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Nazmul Hasan Papon.
Sheikh Hasina has called Dr Samanta Lal Sen National Coordinator of Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the cabinet under technocrat quota and Architect Yeafes Osman continues as techocrat minister for the ministry of Science and Technology.
The state ministers in the newly formed are Simeen Hossain Rimi, Nasrul Hamid, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Mohammad A Arafat, Mohibur Rahman, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Zahid Faruque, Kujendra Lal Tripura, Begum Rumana Ali, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and Ahsanul Islam.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Thursday evening. The President will first administer the oath of office to the Prime Minister. The President will then administer the oath to ministers, state ministers, and deputy ministers. After the oath, a notification will be issued by distributing the portfolios from the Cabinet Division.
Once the new cabinet is sworn in, they will be the country's new government. The previous cabinet will remain in place until the new cabinet is sworn in. Once the new cabinet is sworn in, the previous cabinet will be automatically dissolved.
The 12th parliamentary election was held on January 7. Voting took place in 299 seats out of 300. The election of the Naogaon-2 constituency has been postponed due to the death of a candidate. A new schedule has been given for the election of that seat. The election will be held on February 13. The results of the Mymensingh-3 constituency were suspended due to the election-related clash. The election for that seat will be held on the 13th of January.
Of the 298 seats, Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League won 222 seats and Jatiya Party won 11 seats. However, the victory rate of independent candidates is higher this time. They won 62 seats. Workers Party and JSD candidates got one seat each in the election under the boat symbol. Syed Mohammad Ibrahim of the Bangladesh Kalyan Party also won a seat in Cox's Bazar.
